Tokyo governor hates the mouse
The Tokyo International Anime Fair started off with bang with governor of Tokyo, Shintaro Ishihara, announcing in his opening ceremony speech: "I hate Mickey Mouse, he has nothing like the unique sensibility that Japan has. The Japanese are inherently skilled at visual expression and detailed work." according to Upi.com
Not a great surprise comments one Anime News Network reader "given [Ishihara's] xenophobic and nationalistic views in general" citing a passage from Ishihara's profile site: ?"...Grummans and P-51s came roaring over me, flying low, and I could see that they had pictures of naked women and Mickey Mouse painted on the fuselage."
